Kelly Conyer Hagood, O.D.

Optometrist

Biography: Dr. Hagood is a TN native. She grew up in a small town in middle TN called Westmoreland. She spent time back in middle Tennessee attending Tennessee Technology of Hartsville where she received a diploma in Automotive Technology before going to Optometry school. She also worked as a raft guide on the Ocoee River during some of this time and in auto parts. She and her husband live in Jonesborough with more dogs than she should have and always looking for the next stray.

Education: Her undergraduate years were spent at UT Knoxville where she double majored in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology. She attained her Bachelor of Arts in philosophy. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr Hagood then chose Southern College of Optometry in Memphis TN to attain her Optometric Education. She graduated cum laude In 2011.

Work history: Post-graduation, Dr Hagood moved to Johnson City, TN to further her training with a Residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the Veterans Affairs of Mountain Home. Following completion of her residency, Dr Hagood, dove into a path of Refractive surgery with TLC (LASIK and PRK). She remained on this course from 2012-2020. She joined TrueLight Eyecare in 2020 where she was excited to return to Primary Care.

Hobbies: She enjoys hiking, kayaking, renovating, junking, thrifting, and just about anything outdoors. Faith and family are her highest priorities in life.

Makayla Harr, O.D.

Optometrist

Biography: Dr. Harr was born and raised in Bristol, TN until she was 11 and then moved to Piney Flats, TN. After graduating from Optometry school, she moved back to Bristol with her husband, Evan, and two mini golden doodles, Oscar and Leo.

Education: Dr. Harr graduated Valedictorian from Tennessee High School in 2017. She then graduated Cum Laude from East Tennessee State University in 2020 with a major in Biology and minor in Business. She graduated from the Kentucky College of Optometry at the University of Pikeville, Kentucky in 2024.

Work history: Between the years 2015-2020, Dr. Harr worked as a part time technician at Mills Optometric Associates in Elizabethton, TN. During optometry school she completed clinical externships at these locations: Kentucky College of Optometry (Pikeville, KY), Simpson Optical (Lexington, KY), Abell Eyes Refractive Solutions (Lexington, KY).

Hobbies: Hanging out with friends, family, and her dogs are her favorite things to do. She also loves traveling, playing tennis, playing card games, and reading.

Evan Harr, MBA

Business manager

Evan is from Bristol, TN. He and his wife, Dr. Makayla Harr recently moved back to the area and joined the Truelight staff. He played college soccer at Carson-Newman University and received his MBA from LSU. Evan enjoys running with his dogs, Oscar & Leo and watching soccer.

Itzel Gurrola

lead technician/administrator

Itzel was born and raised in Jonesborough, TN. She loves spending the weekends with her family and her dog, Jax. She enjoys working with her amazing coworkers and her sister as well! She has been working at Truelight for 3 years.

Michelle Guy

optician

Michelle is from Hampton, TN. She is very passionate about making sure each patient loves their glasses. She has a beautiful family of four and her husband, Justin, is her biggest supporter. Her daughter Vanessa and son Michael are her biggest blessings in life. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family, friends, and riding her Harley’s. She has been with Truelight for almost 2 years.

Vanessa Guy

Vanessa is from Hampton, TN. She is the most recent addition to the team at Truelight. She enjoys working with her mother, Michelle. In her free time she loves riding motorcycles and tatooing!

Arleth Gurrola

Arleth was born in Naples, FL and raised in Jonesborough, TN. She enjoys working remotely for Truelight. Her favorite thing to do is spend quality time with her family and husband!
